Rightly Interpret Word of truth: Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2ti 2:15) [Jewish leaders did not "rightly divide" (or rightly interpret) their prophecies and thereby denied Jesus as the Messiah. Are Christians today dividing the Word correctly, or are they making the same mistake as the Jews by dividing (or interpreting) them literally (in a fleshly manner)? - see notes '17' & '85' (js)]
Beware the Leaven of the Pharisees: How is it that ye do not understand that I spake [it] not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees? Then understood they how that he bade [them] not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees (mat 16:11:12, mrk 8:11-12, luk 12:1) [The Pharisees were taking the teachings of men and presenting them as the teachings of God. Have Christians of today made the same mistake?].
Why Jesus taught in Parables: Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people's heart is waxed gross, and [their] ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with [their] eyes and hear with [their] ears, and should understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. (mat 13:13-15) [Because only the pure-hearted were able to discern them spiritually (js)]
False Interpretation: But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. (2pe 2:1) [Note that it doesn't say "might" or "probably", it says that there "will" be false interpretations within Christianity (js)]
