The correlation between the Christian and Islamic calendars did not escape the notice of Christian scholars. H. Gratten Guinness, for example writes, 'This is the more remarkable also as this [AD 1844] is the 1 260th year of the Hegira' (The Approaching End of the Age 439). The Islamic calendar is reckoned from the Hijra in the year AD622. The 'Hejira' (or Hegira is the latinized version of Hijra. Islamic dates are indicated by the European abbreviation AH, which stands for 'Anno Hegirae'. In Islamic history the Hijra signifies the point when Muhammad, owing to severe persecution, broke off relations with the people of the city of Mecca and migrated to Medina. This move marked a dramatic change in the fortunes of Muhammad.. (81:1)

We now know that, according to Baha'i teachings, there is a relationship between the period of the abomination of desolation and the period of time corresponding to the Islamic era. This means that Jesus' prophecy (Matt.24:15) concerning the transgression against the sanctuary is related to the Islamic religion. (81:2)

Islam and the 'Abomination of Desolation'-- 'Abdu'l-Baha indicates that the transgression against the sanctuary occurred because, or rather consisted of the fact that, 'the people forfeited all' that Muhammad and 'Ali (81:3)
