Internal strife quickly rocked the early development of Islam, causing much grief in the Muslim community. (87:1) Moreover, the Christians would themselves take up the sword against the Muslims and show the utmost malevolence towards the Faith Muhammad established. In this way, the house of God was divided and nearly destroyed. In fact, to this day, many individuals point to the violent clashes between Muslims and Christians, such as the Crusades and recent strife in the Middle-East, as a reason for disavowing religion altogether. (87:2) In the Baha'i community, which is now established globally, this antagonism is reconciled. Because of the example and teachings of the Bab and Baha'u'llah, the many Baha'is in Western countries, such as the Americas and Europe, who come from Christian backgrounds, have accepted the legitimacy and divine inspiration of the Faith of Islam. Moreover, Baha'u'llah has taught peoples of the East to abandon their prejudices towards Christians. This is one of the ways in which the Baha'i Faith has re-established the religion of God and, in doing so, has 'cleansed the sanctuary' and restored the Temple of God.
