The same principle is embodied in Christ's statement: "You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?" (mat 7:16-17) (99:4) see

In these words, Christ emphasizes that things are known by their qualities or "fruits" and states that those qualities must be consistent with the reality of what they identify. For example, there is no relationship between grapes and thorn bushes, nor between figs and thistles. Grapes come from grapevines, and because grapes are a fruit of the vine they are, in that way, consistent with the reality of the grapevine. (99:5)
