The next occurrence of mention of fulfillment of scripture in the Book of Matthew presents us with an interesting question. The verse from Matthew is the following: (37:2) And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene. (mat 2:23) (37:3) see The question is "What prophet, and what prophecy is Matthew referring to?" The word "Nazarene" is not mentioned in the Old Testament, neither is the city of Nazareth (37:4) In any case, not knowing the prophecy that this verse refers to, we cannot discuss how it may have been interpreted by the seeker
