In His general letters to the kings of East and West, Baha'u'llah warned that if they ignored His advice, a resistless 'Divine chastisement' would overwhelm them. Absolute monarchy- the standard and time- honoured mode of government during Baha'u'llah's lifetime- has since been transformed by a rising tide of calamities into the quaint relic of a bygone age.
