The Reformation in England was related to "the King's Great Matter"-- Henry Viii's attempt to get the pope to annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon so he could marry Anne Boleyn. By 1532 Henry's patience ran out. The king (whom Pope Leo had dubbed Defender of the Faith for his essay against Luther) rejected papal authority, took the title Supreme Head of the Church in England, wed his second queen, and enriched his gentry with monasteries of the realm.
