This book is a commentary on Jesus' great prophetic sermon found in Matthew, chapter 24, commonly known as the Olivet Discourse. This Discourse also corresponds to portions of Mark, chapter 13, and Luke, chapter 21. (11:1)

The commentary in this book follows, verse by verse, the text of Matthew, chapter 24, as it appears in the King James Version of the Bible. Although many scholars today do not regard this version as the most accurate or reliable translation of the Bible, its style remains widely admired and has come to be regarded as the classic English language translation of the Bible. Moreover, it seems fitting to use this version because it was one of the most widely used translations in the English speaking world at the time Baha'is believe the prophecies of Matthew were realized. However, for the purpose of clarity and to benefit from the variety of scholarship available today, various translations of the Bible will be cited and occasionally compared with the King James Version. The less archaic New King James Version is the version used almost exclusively when explanations are given in the commentaries. (11:2)
