There were essentially two ways to discover when the 1,260-year period began: (l) ascertain when the Faith of God was corrupted and/or (2) recognize when the two witnesses appeared. Because Christian scholars did not see the significance of the appearance of Muhammad and His chief disciple 'Ali, they commonly calculated the 1,260 years from dates such as 552, 606 and 758, which they believed marked the beginning of the corruption of Christianity. Yet, at none of these dates can we find two witnesses as prophesied in the Book of Revelation. This oversight led many Christians to terminate the 1,260 year period at numerous dates which eventually proved to be insignificant. Because this led to confusion over what the correct dates were, most Christian scholars eventually started to question and reject their own approach to understanding Daniel's prophecies and the Book of Revelation. (83:1)

What they failed to realize are two rather obvious points: (l) It is when religion is corrupted that God sends Prophets and Messengers. (2) The Book of Revelation states clearly that God will send 'two witnesses' who will prophesy for 1,260 years. This means the two witnesses will appear at the beginning of the 1,260 year period. The Christian scholars were right in realizing that Christianity was being corrupted and that the period of 1,260 years must, therefore, have begun around the time its corruption began. But they did not discern that when that period began, the two witnesses, Muhammad and 'Ali, who arose like Moses and Joshua, had set out to restore the Faith of God and to give light to the people during that period - even as the Bible had prophesied! (83:2)
