Thus there is a broad spectrum in Church ethics, from the age-old disparagement of the claims of the body, of woman and of marriage (based on Paul), to the assertion that codes of sexual morality are by no means valid for all times, permitting indulgence in extra-marital intercourse and petting. With this decay in our world order, it is for the Baha'i a guide and not a "commonplace" when Baha'u'llah says that in the new era, as in former times, marriage is the place where the sexes may and should come together. In the confusions and dangers of this world the Word of God is the "unmistakable balance" whereby truth shall be distinguished from error.. it is the compass of humanity, which has lost direction and gone astray..
