According to the Bible, until the building of the Tower of Babel mankind was united and "all the world" had "a single language." But the Lord dispersed men over the earth and confused their tongues because of their pride. The two processes were simultaneous. The unification of mankind, which Baha'u'llah has promised, corresponds in time to the removal of language barriers. The revelation of Baha'u'llah is the repeal of Babel. The introduction of a world language and script, which every child should be taught in addition to his mother-tongue, directly serves the most noble goal: the unification of the nations and their living together in peace. What is there illusory about that? Surely history shows what an integrating force a common language can be. Thus the dialect of the Qurayshites, which with Muhammad became a world language overnight-- the Arabic language and script-- was, together with Islam, the bond which united many peoples.. (75:1)
