Other Resurrections (108:0)

Certainly Jesus, and possibly the others named, could have performed the several other "resurrections" mentioned in the Bible, since "The Holy Manifestations are the sources of miracles.. for Them, any difficult and impracticable thing is possible and easy.." (saq 100:2) - but they appear to be different than those of Jesus' appearances after His crucifixion - with no mention of supernatural powers exibited by the resurrected bodies (such as appearing or disappearing). And some of these "resurrections" might also have been "resuscitations", but regardless of whatever physical meaning or reality these stories relate to us, according to Bahá'í teachings, they convey much-more important "inner significances" [-ed]. (108:1) see

"For instance, in the Gospel it is written that at the martyrdom of Christ darkness prevailed, and the earth quaked, and the veil of the Temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom, and the dead came forth from their graves. If these events had happened, they would indeed have been awesome, and would certainly have been recorded in the history of the times. They would have become the cause of much troublings of heart. Either the soldiers would have taken down Christ from the cross, or they would have fled. These events are not related in any history; therefore, it is evident they ought not to be taken literally, but as having an inner significance." (saq 37:4) (108:2) see

This event was described in Ezekial (exe 37:1-14) and includes the story of "Dry Bones" being brought back to "life". i. e."Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: (eze 37:5)." One possible "inner significance" being that ".. the religious laws of each preceding prophet are annulled by the succeeding one and are as dry bones. In the time of Christ the commands of Moses were as dry bones.." [which Jesus renewed]. (Bahá'í Library Online, Utterances of Abdu'l-Baha to Thomas Breakwell, Herbert Hopper, and Isabella D. Brittingham, pg 7). (108:3) see

Resurrections may also refer to persons being raised from the "death" of unbelief to the "life" of belief in Jesus. This would certainly be a more profound resurrection, since physical bodies would soon die again anyway, whereas being raised from the death of "unbelief" to "belief" would be for eternity.
