These points from Abdul-Baha's talks illustrate why so much emphasis is placed on Baha'u'llah's exiles and imprisonments. Today the "message of the cross" is the message of Baha'u'llah's imprisonments. Baha'u'llah clearly and eloquently states the meaning of this message in these verses: (115:1) "My body hath endured imprisonment that ye may be released from the bondage of self." (tbh 12) (115:2) "We, verily, have come for your sakes, and have borne the misfortunes of the world for your salvation." (tbh 10)
