The question is "What prophet, and what prophecy is Matthew referring to?" The word "Nazarene" is not mentioned in the Old Testament, neither is the city of Nazareth (37:4) In any case, not knowing the prophecy that this verse refers to, we cannot discuss how it may have been interpreted by the seeker
